The Tree House - Overview of Play

Introduction

Lock, Shock, and Barrel

"Trick or Treat! It's us! You're favorite characters from Halloweentown: Lock! Shock! And Barrel! Welcome to our Tree House! We hope your stay here is ever so pleasant. But if things get boring, don't worry! We'll send you down a thrilling chute to a place where lots of fun things happen!"

Shock

"Shut up, you two! Now Jack has asked us to explain to our guests how to play The Nightmare Before Christmas TCG, so that's just what I'll do! First of all, we need to explain the Object of the Game. The Object of the Game is...um...to put out the most girl Characters and...um...to kill all the boy Characters! Yes, that's right!"

Lock

"No, it's not! The Object of the Game is much less stupid than that! You're supposed to capture all your opponent's Characters and then boil them alive!"

Barrel

"You two have got it all wrong! The Object of the Game is to... is to... uh... Which game are we talking about again?"

Jack

"That's enough, you three! Now get it right this time!"

Lock, Shock, and Barrel

"Okay, Jack. We'll get it right... this time!"

Object of the Game

There are 12 Days left until Christmas and our really good friend Jack is trying to bring his dreams of running Christmas to life! Each player has a set of Locale Cards which represent his or her own version of Halloweentown (which is the greatest place in the world!). During the course of the game's 12 Days (or Rounds), each player plays Characters below his Locales in order to make his Halloweentown scarier, and to activate his Locales so he can use their Functions.

Diagram 1

The Functions of the Locales allow players to draw cards into their hands, add Pumpkin Points (which are used to pay for Card Costs), and move Characters around Halloweentown.

Each Character has a Scare Number in the upper left corner that determines how scary that Character is, and how many Scare Points the Character is worth at the end of the game. Characters also use their Scare Numbers to activate the Locales they visit in Halloweentown.

Players also play Creations (green) to rack up lots of Scare Points, and play Surprises (red) to mess with their opponents and do other fun stuff.

Sandy Claws Outfit My Fantasies

At the end of the 12th Day, whoever has the most Scare Points in her Halloweentown wins the game!
